As you already know, California is experiencing difficult economic times. It is a challenging time for all of us. School funding is at an all time low while expectations are high.
The latest budget proposal would cut an additional $6 billion to schools. When combined with cuts already made to our schools in the current year and no proposed accounting maneuvers to delay other payments owed to schools, we are looking at a total cuts of about $11 billion. Now is the time to invest in our schools, not take away from the education and welfare of our students.
Ocean View School District is experiencing the same hardships that the school districts are experiencing across the State of California. For example, we are no longer able to offer after school intervention programs for our students due to budget cuts. At jeopardy are: teacher jobs, smaller class size, additional teacher resources such as reading specialist, physical education specialist and a shorter school year for students.
Please take the time to contact your local government representatives to express your concern regarding your child’s education. See Mrs. Dalton for a list of public officials to contact.
