From the Counselor

Greetings! My name is Andres Zaldivar and I'm the school counselor at Tierra Vista Elementary. I am very excited about being here, and look forward to working with students, parents, teachers, staff, and administration!

My goal is to offer students support on campus whenever they need counseling with personal/social related issues, as well as assisting with academic related issues. Also, I am here to provide resources/referrals to the Tierra Vista community, so please see me with any questions about this.

Again, thank you for allowing me to serve you and I look forward to seeing all of you!

Please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email at (805)986-6764 or azaldivar@oceanviewsd.org

Sincerely, Andres Zaldivar

Attendance Resources

At Tierra Vista, we aim to provide a learning environment where students are excited about coming to school every day.  With this, we strive for our students to uphold excellent attendance records.  This responsibility falls on all of the stakeholders (parent, teacher, administrator, counselor, etc...) involved with the student.

Chronic Absenteeism for a student can lead to many issues in the present, as well as in the future, for the student.

Chronis Absenteeism is legally defined as A student who is absent for any reason, whether excused or unexcused, on 10 percent or more of the school days enrolled.

Below you will find some helpful tips for ensuring a student's successful attendance record:

What do I do if my child is absent?

  • Upon return to school, make sure that your child has written documentation regarding his/her absence that is signed by one parent or guardian
  • If make-up work is allowable, be sure to make arrangements with your child's teacher immediately, and work with your child to ensure he/she completes it within the designated timeframe as prescribed by the teacher

How can Parents help with student attendance

  • Plan vacations during non-school days
  • Schedule your child’s medical and dental appointments at the end of the school day
  • Make sure they go to school every day unless they are ill
  • Take an interest in your child’s schoolwork
  • If your child starts to miss school, speak to the school and let your child know he/she must attend
  • If your child is ill, contact the school and explain the reason for the absence

Bullying Prevention

At Tierra Vista we have a zero tolerance for bullying. As the school counselor, I work with the entire Tierra Vista community to ensure that our students feel safe and sound every day that they are on campus. We have an anti-bullying prevention program that we conduct every school year. This consists of school wide presentations on raising awareness, bullying intervention, and how to handle a bully.

Parents are encouraged to contact us with any questions or concerns regarding bullying.
